Visiting the Area

Visiting BAR HARBOR and ACADIA NATIONAL PARK  (18 miles away) on MOUNT DESERT ISLAND? Perhaps the BLUE HILL PENINSULA (30 minute drive) or SCHOODIC POINT (45 minute drive)? The Eagle’s Lodge Motel in Ellsworth serves as a central hub for vacationers and business travelers visiting Hancock County and Downeast Maine’s scenic attractions.

We are situated near the intersection of U. S. Routes 1 & 3 across from Birdsacre Sanctuary. Birdsacre Sanctuary offers 200 acres of protected wilderness and walking trails located right in the heart of the Beckwith Hill Business District!

City of Ellsworth

A great shopping experience awaits you in the City of Ellsworth with a diverse selection of shops. Our vibrant Downtown is just a mile away and features art galleries, antique shops, museums, a performing arts center, fine jewelry artisans, farmers’ markets, outlet shopping, book and toy stores. Don’t miss the home-made ice cream parlors, a health food market, a store for cooks, several unusual gift shops and factory outlet stores.

Many locally owned restaurants are open year round for a truly varied dining experience.  You could choose a seafood restaurant one night and then the next night decide to sample Sri Lankan or Thai. Maybe Sushi, Mexican or Chinese sounds good.  How about Irish pub food, a pizza or steak? Seasonal restaurants include several take out spots and lobster pounds; a lobster pound is a roadside eatery featuring clams, mussels and lobster cooked in pots of salt water over wood fires.

Things to Do!

Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Birdsacre, is a wonderful place for a stroll. The Great Maine Lumberjack Show or Wild Acadia Fun Park are sure to be a hit with the kids!  Scenic Flights of Acadia, The Abbe Museum, Seal Cove Auto Museum and the Woodlawn Museum (also known as The Colonel Black Mansion) are located within a few miles. Our area also offers whale watching trips and sightseeing cruises. Maybe bike and kayak rentals or multi-use trails are more your style. You could check out a microbrewery and vineyards or opt for scenic train and trolley rides. So many things to do and see while visiting our beautiful area!
